Journal for 2003 August 29
Even now, 7:55 am to try to make an 8:30 am first aid class, I practically bursting with the anticipation. Olin students are back, and doing what they do best -- evaluating their institution. The first Signals and Systems class is Tuesday, and I help teach the first "Software Using Image and Sound" class on Friday. There are still too many things to do, but everything is coming together as fast as it can.

Last night, I was stopped by the god of War at his closest and played hookie to sit on Killian Court and hear what he had to say. Is it notable that we can look inward and see Venus but when we look outward, we see Mars? Piers Anthony and Radical Honesty ruined any hope of pacificism for me. Though I fear more than anything the hatred to come, I see the solution as a world where we can come to blows over the destruction of the rain forest or the beauty of a work of art.

More than anything, the god told me, without addressing me, to be more humble, and take myself less seriously. I have so many hopes for my life with Olin in the coming year, but I am just a bag of molecules on a ball of rock spinning through space. My goals are simultaneously very essential and completely insignificant.
