Vowel Landmarks indicate the locations of vowels in a speech signal. They are one aspect of the Lexical Access From Features (LAFF) system, being developed at MIT.

This study does the following:

  1. examine the definition of a Vowel Landmark
  2. review prior work on similar problems
  3. create a prototype detector and test it
  4. devise a scoring paradigm to measure performance
  5. examine the predictions of acoustic theory
  6. gather statistics on database to test theory
