C1 -- Statistical Study
Examine speech data to determine behavior of F1 in vowels.
Methodology
- TIMIT subset (600 utterances from training set)
- Identify vowels using phonetic transcription
- Find F1 frequency using formant tracker
- Find F1 amplitude using filtered average on spectrogram
Things to look for
- Vowel duration histogram
- Amplitude peak histogram across normalized duration
- Frequency peak histogram across normalized duration
- Amplitude peak vs. frequency peak scatter plot
- Phonetic context of peaks at endpoints
