Successfully completing these extra credit projects by the due date for make-up work can add points to your grade.

  1. (This may add up to 2 points to your grade.) In section 3 of the web site The National Budget, Debt & Deficit there is a graph of Federal Debt at the End of the Year showing "projected" values for 2004-2009. Find the actual debt at the end of 2004 through 2007 and compare those values to the ones projected in the graph. Do you think the graph shows an accurate projection of debt through 2009? Why or why not?
  2. Use Graphmatica to draw a picture; see https://hench-maths.wikispaces.com/space/showimage/parabola_graphmatica.doc for more information.
  3. Finding the Vertex of a Parabola
  4. (This may add up to 1 point to your grade.) Read the article on investing in the stockmarket posted at http://globalgrowthinvestor.com/181/setting-reasonable-goals-in-the-stock-market/ and show the work used to get the figures of $704,250, just over $1m, $1.8m and $3.3m.
