Amanda A. S. Gulbis: PLAY
This page is a meager attempt at putting some fun things on the website. I enjoy traveling, but I don't usually carry a camera....so there's not much here to represent all of the great experiences I've had. At least it's something!

In June 2008, we moved to South Africa. We live in Observatory, a suburb of Cape Town. So far, we really like living here! Below are some photos of the sights.

As a side trip to my attending a conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, my father agreed to travel around the country with me. We had alot of fun (me more so than him, since he was forced to drive on the "wrong" side of some very narrow roads!). We saw many castles, ate hand-dived scallops on the Isle of Skye, enjoyed the harsh and beautiful Northen coast, and drank alot of beer. Here are some pictures of the heather, Loch Ness, and the local wildlife.

In 2006, we got to spend 2+ weeks running around Australia after observing a stellar occultation by Pluto. I spent some time working in Canberra, then Eric and I went to Queensland (based in Cairns), South Australia (starting in Adelaide), Victoria (via the Great Ocean Road), and back to New South Wales. Snorkeling on the Great Barrier reef, dodging wallabies while hiking, visiting lots of wineries, seeing an amazingly dark sky in the Grampians, and cheering for the Socceroos (along with tens of thousands of Aussies) at 2 AM in downtown Melbourne were some of the highlights. No camera, though...
During our 2005 trip to Tanzania (Eric's Peace Corps country - thank goodness one of us can speak Swahili!) we had some lion visitors near our tent in the Serengeti and Sister Pauline took us to the paradise of Kamanga (on Lake Victoria):

I forced my dad to hike the Grand Canyon in January, and camp for two nights at the bottom. At least he got some nice photos!

We had a great time in Alaska, hanging out with Eric's brother, seeing Denali, and then cruising down along the inside passage:
