What is the FutureOfGymnastics?

The purpose of this organization is to answer that exact question by our mission to secure, strengthen and promote the future of women's gymnastics in intercollegiate athletics.  Future Of Gymnastics is a committee formed by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) in close partnership with USA Gymnastics (USAG), US Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs, Inc (USAIGC) and the US Elite Coaches Association (USECA).

The gymnastics community is concerned with the current trend of intercollegiate athletics cutting gymnastics from their departments.  Female gymnasts already distinguish themselves as the group of athletes with the least number of opportunities to continue with their sport in college.  And the sport lost an additional four varsity programs at the end of the 2002 school year. Since then, several other programs have been threatened and the trend continues. Female gymnasts also distinguish themselves as the highest academic student-athletes on most campuses and overall leading the way in national academic awards.  Most of our athletes are also active in the community, personifying the mission statement of their university in every aspect by attaining academic excellence, athletic excellence and representing the school with dignity and respect.

The committee for the Future Of Gymnastics will serve three main functions.

  1. Be the point of contact for any college program in danger of being eliminated. 
  2. Work to identify and target colleges and universities that wish to be true to their mission by attracting the highest quality student-athletes and provide them with all of the information and services that they may require in order to get a program started.
  3. Disseminate all of the information to the gymnastics community to keep them up-to-date and specifying how they can help.

The committee is currently formed by:

  • Mike Jacki - Vice-chair - NACGC/W Executive Director
  • Bill Sands - USECA President (consultant)
  • Kathy Feldmann - USAG Vice President - Member Services (consultant)
  • Debbie Yohman - Head Coach University of Pittsburgh
  • Barbara Gibson - Head Coach University of Wisconsin - La Crosse
  • John Ceralde - Asst. Coach University of Pennsylvania
  • Lisa Woody - Head Coach US Air Force Academy
  • Rene Cook - Co-Head Coach University of Arkansas
  • Kerrie Beach - Asst. Coach Bowling Green State University
  • Gail Davis - former Associate A.D. at Rhode Island College and former member of the USAG Board.
