Evan THOMAS (a.k.a. Ifan y Mynydd, Evan of the Mountain), b. ca. 1787 at Aberavon, Glamorgan, m. 6 Oct 1812 at Aberavon, after banns on 12/19/26 Jul 1812, Mary POWELL (b. ca. 1793 outside Glamorgan, d. by 1851). Evan's wife Mary is said to have been the daughter of a squire in Ross-on-Wye, in whose household Evan worked as a groom (see family story as recalled by a descendant). At his son's baptism in 1812, a servant. At his children's baptisms in 1814 and 1816, a laborer, of Aberavon. At his daughter's baptism in 1823, a groom, of Aticl(?) Wen, Baglan. At his daughter's baptism in 1825, a groom, of Mynydd, Baglan. At his children's baptisms in 1828, 1830, and 1832, a laborer, of Mynydd, Baglan. In 1841, a laborer, living at Pant yr Ysgawen, Baglan, Glamorgan, with his wife Mary, their children Robert, Elizabeth, Cathrine, Anna, Thomas, and William, and Thomas SENYINS(?) (b. ca. 1833 in Glamorgan). In 1851, he was a farmer of 30 acres, living in a cottage near San Fain, Lower Baglan, with his children Esther and William and a house servant (Thomas SIMKINS, b. ca. 1832 at Baglan). In 1861, a foreman, living with his daughter Catherine. Evan's descendant Gareth Morgan recalled that Evan was a farmer at Gelli Deg and one of the hereditary burgesses of the ancient borough of Aberavon. [ref. 1,2,3a,3b,3c,5a2,5a3,5b]
