On Thursday, Sept 17 1998, I stopped by MIT around 2pm and picked up alyse. Fortunately, a few co-conspirators were also present to pickup the house keys (so Bob could be fed) -- not that they knew, but unless they were idiots, they could probably guess. :)
So then alyse and I went up to Kennebunkport, Maine, to the Ocean View B&B -- which, I must say, I must highly recommend. Excellent place; right along the waterfront. (It's great; when they say "ocean view", they don't mean "from three blocks away".) Fortunately, alyse fell asleep on the ride up, thereby preventing awkward questions of the form, "uhh, why are we going to Maine?"
I cleverly managed to propose on a spot that is submerged half the time -- must be the thin oxygen that far north. (Waaait a minute.) :) So when we went back the next morning to take a picture, hmm... it's all under water. (We came back later that day.)
Dinner was at the White Barn Inn, about a mile away. Another excellent place. Sure, it's expensive, but it's worth it. Or, as the proprietor of the Ocean View put it, "You -will- enjoy yourselves." Not an order; a firm confidence in what would happen. Simply amazing; no, words like "superlative" really don't do it justice. You -have- to go; not an order, just a firm confidence in that you, too, will find it totally worth it. :)
Woke up at the crack of 9am the next day, meandered around Kennebunkport (did the tourist trolley thing), then meandered down to Ogunquit for lunch (went to Hurricanes, which is a nice little restaurant with a very good view), and then finally managed to pull back into Boston (after going about warp 12 or so for an hour) around 7pm.
