%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The original post: Subject: hmmm. Tomo. Aug 10, 2001 01:13 PM Well rumor is around town that you're secretly into necromancy and are helping Tempus form his own private army against Lord R. Any truth behind these? Of course you wouldn't admit to it. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% My (unposted) reply: Subject: OOG: snicker Damn, come up with something better. Let's start at the top. Necromancy? Rebellion? How trite. How overdone. Lesse, what could be interesting rumors about Tomo: 1. He's Captain of the Militia. Is he going to try and impose an Okian sense of justice on the town? After all, he has Tempus' ear. 2. He's a shaman -- but have you ever seen him do anything besides turning and heal? Is his gift damaged? Is he just ignoring his studies? Is he holding back? 3. He's an Okian, but not very much of one. Oh, sure, he dresses like one, but he doesn't talk like one. Where did he learn to speak Galanese so well? And just how honorable does he act? Talk is cheap; if we went by talk, then everyone in town is an Okian sensei. So going by actions: is he really loyal to House, Clan, and Emperor? There hasn't been much of a test about this, has there? And if he's not loyal to House, Clan, and Emperor, what does that mean for his interactions with the Okians? Are they all Okian renegades? 4. Tomo arrived with House Dandalo, but hasn't been hanging around them much. Why? Oh, sure, we know the public reason, but what's the private reason? 5. Hasn't he been seen drinking tea with the other Okians? What's up with that? Do they have an agenda? Next: "Of course you wouldn't admit it." Oh, please; I stopped hearing this kind of rhetoric before I got to junior high school ("If you don't do this, I won't be your friend.") Now: maybe this was an attempt at humor, ala DL & Tomo's Social Column. You'll note that Mike and I held ourselves to a certain standard: our material had to be sufficiently surreal that no one could confuse it with anything IG, and it had to be funny. Total failure on both counts. dave
