Flying Grasshopper

folded from an uncut square, 25" x 25"
designed by Brian Chan
August, 2006

Like I said, I like grasshoppers and crickets. Until now I realized I have not designed many color-change flying insects, so I decided to fold a grasshopper. In designing this model I decided to go back to old circle-packing techniques, but using easy-to-find reference points (most of them lie on 16ths). I also set as top priority:

-having the legs and antennae all come from the edge (no thick middle points)
-saving more paper for the hind wings to create a fan-like structure
-no skimping on leg lengths (but shouldn't this be a rule for all realistic-style origami insects?)
