Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL)
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
My name is Chih-yu Chao. I joined MIT CSAIL in Fall 2005.
In Fall 2003, I became a member of the Dialogs on Dialogs Reading Group, which is open to researchers around the world who are interested in dialog systems. If you are interested in dialog systems or conversational agents, welcome to join us!
Before I came to MIT, I was in the Master's program of the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University. I also worked in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute under the advise of Dr. Scott M. Stevens. Before attending the LTI Master's program, I completed my MA degree under the supervision of Dr. Christopher M. Jones in Computer Assisted Language Learning, an interdisciplinary program at Carnegie Mellon University. I also completed my BS and MS degrees under the advice of Dr. Yee-Pien Yang in Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University.
I am interested in learning foreign languages and processing natural (human) languages with technologies; I am also interested in user-centered design, so that more people can benefit from the current technologies. At leisure, I enjoy singing with the MIT Jazz Combo and writing songs. I also play the guitar, piano, and liuqin (柳琴, a Chinese stringed instrument). Here is a bilingual video clip introducing the basics of liuqin (you might need Windows Media Player to play this .asf file).
