A Minor in Chemistry can be earned by completing six chemistry subjects.
Required Subjects
5.03 Principles of Inorganic Chemistry I
5.12 Organic Chemistry I
5.310 Laboratory Chemistry
5.60 Thermodynamics & Kinetics
Elective Subjects (choose two)
5.04 Principles of Inorganic Chemistry II
5.07 Biological Chemistry**
5.08 Biological Chemistry II
5.13 Organic Chemistry II
5.36 Biochemistry and Organic Laboratory *
5.37 Organic and Inorganic Laboratory *
5.43 Advanced Organic Chemistry
5.61 Physical Chemistry I
5.62 Physical Chemistry II
* A total of 12 units of credit from Modules in 5.36U or 5.37U satisfies one elective subject of a chemistry minor.
** 7.05 will also be accepted in place of 5.07.
To declare a chemistry minor:
Fill out a Minor Application form and bring the completed form and a copy of your most recent MIT unofficial transcript (from Student Services, Room 11-120) to Karen Shaner in the Chemistry Education Office (6-205).
Subjects required for a minor are discussed above.

By the third week of your final semester you must fill out a Minor Completion Form.
Bring a copy of your most recent MIT unofficial transcript (from Student Services, Room 11-120) and a completed Minor Completion Form to Karen Shaner in the Chemistry Education Office, 6-205.
Minor Completion Forms can be obtained from the Registrar, the School of Science Office, and the Chemistry Education Office. For additional information, please contact the Chemistry Education Office, Room 6-205, or call the main office number at 617-253-7271.
If you do not complete this final step by the third week of your final semester, your minor degree may not appear on your diploma.
