I have been thinking that some parts of the original Scout mission
could be performed by AIs.  Nero's class, by virtue of being hardware
independent, is well-equipped to survive catastrophic societal
failure.  I hope that AIs will support the Scouts directly, but as a
separate enterprise, the instantiation of AIs trained for the mission
of staving off collapse, and fostering recovery after collapse, is
also an option open to us.  [Note, however, that proper AI training--
not to be confused with how we trained Nero--requires a serious
infrastructure of skill libraries.]
