Kith has cultured up a nigh-infinite quantity of Anya's cells for use
in an experiment in which innumerable (well, no, actually seven) bad
things are done to them. The poor hapless cells suffer from:
- Telekinetic squashing (Katya)
- Blaster fire (Dr. Kye)
- A miniature Aztec-theme death trap, with carved snakes and
shrunken heads on pillars and a (very small) boulder that rolls down
and through the cells (Dr. Kye)
- Micro-laser fire in a video game setup (Wilson and Sook). Alas,
in this game, like in Space Invaders, the enemy always wins, and the
cells are not properly vanquished for a successful experiment.
- Low pressure / vacuum (Hippocrates)
- Gravity shifts via piloting (Eva)
- Plasma brand (Janzur). While this is successful, Janzur also
puts a hole in the floor through the deck plating down to the computer
core, through which cell culture begins to drip on the keyboards.
- Sparky Cola (Moment Before Dawn)
Sophia successfully number crunches all the data and the experiment is
successful!
Next, a set of brave volunteers are mildly tortured, such that each
has a small cut, a small burn, frostbite, a non-fatal case of
poisoning, a strained muscle, a bruise, and Kith-induced emotional
stress. Once suitably banged up, each volunteer is treated with a
different type of medicine:
- Katya: the Kaufman tubes
- Ace: a local unlicensed doctor
- Sook: Kith's teas and poultices
- Eva: A crystals-and-music New Age healer (with Tinoori Relaxation)
- Jim: Hegemonic tech - the patches in Hippocrates' cabinet
- Kye: Kith's psi healing
- Janzur: natural healing over time
The data from each test subject is gathered up in a really big stack
for Sophia to look at.
