MIT Poetry Slam / Verse Reading Competition

Council for the Arts Funded (in part) by a Director's Grant from the Council for the Arts at MIT Council for the Arts

WHEN: May 10, 2004 4:30-6:30 pm

WHERE: Kresge Little Theatre (Basement of Kresge)

RULES:

The following rules must be observed by all contestants –

  • The chosen piece must be no more than 3 minutes long.
  • Only 1 piece per contestant will be allowed.
  • The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be appealed.
  • The chosen piece does NOT have to be original. Both original verse as well as verse by other poets are acceptable.

  • JUDGING CRITERIA:

  • Difficulty of piece
  • Clarity
  • Diction
  • Facial expressions
  • Energy
  • Overall impact of performance

  • PRIZES:

    This will be a performing arts competition with emphasis on artful delivery of verse. Three cash prizes will be awarded –
    First Prize ($100)
    Second Prize ($50)
    Third Prize ($20)

    Judges can, at their discretion, give “honorable mention” to some contestants.
