Dear fall term instructors,

To help you plan for your semester, I've enclosed the website info for access to:

* Institute 2004-2005 academic calendar http://web.mit.edu/registrar/www/calendar.html

Note that the Columbus Day student holiday is only one day this year. In past years, it has always been two.

* MIT teaching faculty resources http://web.mit.edu/faculty/teaching.html

* Class list access info (web certificates needed) http://student.mit.edu/cgi-docs/instructor.html You will only see preregistration class lists through the Registration deadline, Friday, Sept. 10

* Your subject description (if you submitted one) and downloadable class schedule on the Department's website http://architecture.mit.edu/subjects/fa04/index.html (If you still want to post your description, send it electronically to Donna Beaudry, dbeaudry@mit.edu.)

* MIT Term Regulations http://web.mit.edu/faculty/termregs

The MIT Term Regulations are issued by the Chair of the Faculty. Students can (and will) report violations, so please become acquainted with the rules. Please share this info with your teaching assistants as well. Below are a few rules to pay specific attention to.

First and Third Weeks of the Term

By the end of the first week of classes, the faculty member must provide:

* a clear and complete description of the required work, including the number and kinds of assignments;

* the approximate schedule of tests and due dates for major projects;

* whether or not there will be a final exam; and

* the grading criteria and procedures to be used.

By the end of the third week, the faculty member must provide the precise schedule of tests and major assignments.

End-of-Term Tests and Assignments

Subjects with no final exam or review: Undergraduate Subjects: no test may be given and at most one assignment may fall due between May 9 and the end of the last scheduled class period in the subject.
