My research interests are broadly in the area of Empirical Corporate Finance. More specifically, my research focuses on financial intermediation, banking, and capital structure. In the last years I have been studying how bank lending relationships affect the economic performance of firms. I have done field experiments and panel data analysis to understand how these relationships affect the entrepreneurs’ ability to raise funds, run the business in a profitable way and overcome financial crisis. In my dissertation I explore whether firms have specific targets for the number of banks they wish to borrow from, and whether having multiple bank relationships has an impact on the liquidity situation of the firm. To answer these questions I study a bank merger in Chile that provides a quasi-experiment: an exogenous shock reducing the number of lenders to firms that were previously borrowing from both merging banks. ________________________________________________________ Continue reading my bio
