The 8.01 study guide will be $13.00 and is available at Gnomon Copy at 245 Mass. Ave.
Homework assignments will be handed out on Friday and are due in Room 4-344 the following Thursday by 5:00 pm.
Professor Walter Lewin will discuss every week on MIT's Cable TV (channel 10) the more difficult problems of your assignment due for that week. The program lasts about 60 minutes; it runs day and night (24 hours). You also have the option of going to Barker Library and watch the video tape there (Barker will have 3 copies). You will find all necessary details about these HELP SESSIONS at the end of each assignment.
Tutorials for the course are available from 7-9 pm every Thursday in rooms 2-132 through 2-147.
Contrary to previous announcements, calculators will NOT be permitted at any quiz, review quiz, or the final exam. The questions will be designed so that they can be answered without the use of a calculator.
The review quizzes on October 13 and November 3 will be given in a different location than the weekly quizzes. The location will be room 50-340 (3rd floor of Walker Memorial).
Excuses for these review quizzes must be requested in advance of the quiz (if you are physically able to do so) from the Course Administrator. Acceptable excuses will be rare and will be granted only for verifiable and significant medical reasons.
Excuses which are not acceptable include doctor's appointments, malfunctioning alarm clocks, the advent of daylight savings time, oversleeping for any reason, travel delays or travel plans etc.
The contribution of homework, quizzes and the final make to your grade is shown in the table. To insure uniformity, the review quizzes and the final will be team graded. The twenty five minute quizzes and homework grades will be normalized using the results of the team-grade exams. The final decision on your grade rests with the Course Examiner.
Item Contribution
Homework 15%
25 minute quizzes 25%
Review quizzes 25%
Final 35%
*The course is not graded on a curve. If you obtain more than 62% for the course, you are guaranteed to pass (grade of C for those not on pass/no record).
