Assignments: 21L.434

1) Weekly Journal (1-2 page response to the course materials, lectures, and discussions.)
Journals should show your understanding of core ideas and concepts from the course and your ability to extrapolate from them to form your own arguments. They should be interpretative more than evaluative. They may be informal but should remain substantive. They may address one question fully or pose a number of thoughtful issues. Journals will be accepted late, but only up until one week past the point they were originally due. Journals are due on Tuesday of each week. Collectively, they count 30 percent of your grade.
2) Two Short (5-7 page) Papers (due on March 17 and May 7.)
Papers can be on any topic you want that deals with science fiction and its place in American culture. This is your chance to explore something that really matters to you. Criteria for evaluation will be handed out to you shortly. Each paper counts 30 percent of your grade. Papers can be late only by prior arrangement with the instructor.
3)Class participation and attendance (Counts 10 percent of your grade)
