The Rookie Wall
This page is dedicated to my crease hero, a guy a year younger,
only a wee bit bigger,
and a helluva lot better in the crease than I am.
IMHO, Lalime is the most underrated goalie in existence.

Latest Pens Game - 2000
It was light-up night at the Igloo on December 27th as Mario joined the
lineup to light up CuJo's red light 5 times in a Garth Snow shutout
(with a little help from his goalposts).
Lalime's Latest Game
Patrick stopped 33 of 37 in a 4-2 loss to his old Penguin comrades
on December 5.
Called up from Cleveland on November 13, 1996 to replace sidelined
Tom Barrasso, Lalime earned the NHL's
Rookie of the Month honors
for December by earning 2 shutouts, a .941 save percentage, and a
1.50 GAA in 9 games. He was also named Rookie of the Month for
January, 1997, making him the first back-to-back winner since
the 1991-92 season.
Saint Patrick took over for Wregget after a hamstring
injury in the Canadiens game. In that game, Lalime's only non-win,
Wregget allowed 3 goals before getting injured, then Lalime held off
the Habs while the Penguins racked up 3 in the third for the tie.

Lalime's goals against average and save percentage for the regular
season put him in the upper portion of the NHL. All of Pittsburgh
(and St. Bonaventure!) is waiting to see how
the rest of his NHL career will unfold.
