Shanghai Team: Hesky, Reid, Roger

After almost a month of traveling the other Shanghai team left Beijing for Shanghai on June 27th. Hesky, Reid and Roger arrived safely (and soaked) at the Fudan University Experts Building. We completely rearranging our hotel room dormitory style (we hope they don't mind) and settled down.

The following day, the 28th, we visited the High School attached to Jiatong University in Shanghai. We were picked up from our hotel, since we had no idea where to go and it was not-so-sunny outside, by one of the teachers who will be helping us, Hu Lao Shi. We were welcomed at the school by Yan Lao Shi and Ni Lao Shi. There were many teachers at the computer lab since there was a software vendor giving a presentation. One of the items allows the teacher's computer to control the terminals in several ways by projecting to the student's computers or directly controlling the individual ones. Perhaps they will purchase it. Regardless they have a projector which should make teaching much easier.

We spent some time talking to the teachers and getting aquainted. Both sides had questions and concerns to clear up. After getting our questions answered and answering some more questions we came away with an understanding of what they wanted. They want our main focus to be teaching HTML and all other web related topics including applets and perhaps Flash. "We want a really good school web page" [paraphrased in english], they said. We will comply and for our own amusement and for the student's well rounded education we will still include other topics we have prepared. Of course, we will give the school what they want.

We were treated to lunch with the Programmers from CSC who were doing the presentation. CSC actually stands for Clever Software Company. We were amused.

The campus mostly looks abandoned since the students are studying for their final exams. We got our chance to look over the computer lab. They have fifty Pentium II 350 Mhz Computers. We experimented with some of the computers and tried to make heads or tails out of the chinese interface for some of the programs. We also tried out some of the software being displayed. Hesky was greatly amused at remotely shutting down Reid's computer.
