Bimbeaux Video (November 1994 - January 1995)
Kaleidospace's Artist-in-Residence (A-i-R) program offers a
unique opportunity for high-profile artists to reach and interact
with the growing, global community of Internet users. Current
A-i-Rs include:
- Fiorella Terenzi (astrophysicist/musician
who is releasing the Voyager CD-ROM "Invisible Universe," based on her work)
- Clive Barker (featuring the Gramercy Pictures release
Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh; horror author, director and visual artist)
- Thomas Dolby (Giant Records artist and world-renowned composer)
- JACKOPIERCE (A&M Records artist)
- Medicine (american recordings artist)
- P. Craig Russell (graphic illustrator)
- David Brin (science fiction author)
The A-i-R is a well-known member of the arts and entertainment
community who is interested in using cyberspace to branch out in
new creative directions. Using the unique features of the
Internet, Kaleidospace provides the A-i-R with an electronic
"soapbox" which addresses a global community free of constraints
and censorship. By working with Kaleidospace, the A-i-R gets
these benefits:
- Full Internet presence for at least one month (24
hours/day) as opposed to a few hours on an online service.
- Ability to deliver text, images, sound and video clips to
Internet users.
- No censorship or constraints on content.
- Information is made available to the Internet in multiple forms
(mailing list/discussion groups, gopher, FTP, and the world wide web).
- Global (in addition to national and local) promotion to
over 20 million people in 130 countries.
- The chance to experiment with new forms of interactive
art. Some A-i-Rs start a story, song or video and allows Internet
users to complete it on their own. This is the type of
interactivity artists have talked about for years;it's
happening today at Kaleidospace.
- Feedback from the online community. Artists can check
their electronic mail when they like, respond privately or
publicly through the site to the ones they
feel are interesting. It's a lot like answering only the
mail you like to get.
- Basic Internet consulting services, for A-i-Rs who wish
to create their own link to the Internet after their tenure.
Artists are asked to be A-i-Rs based on their present standing in
the artistic community--and their compatability with the
independent, cutting-edge nature that defines Kaleidospace
artists.
