Lodz, 5 March 1937 Dear and devoted cousin Shloymele, We wanted to write to you a number of times, but our hearts are so broken up that we are not able to write. We miss our mother wherever we turn; particularly on a Sabbath or a Holiday do we note that someone at the table is missing... A year ago this time, we brought her home from the hospital, although she was not well, but ill. Nevertheless, we thought that we would be able to save her life... The only consolation we find in our lives is our dear and devoted father who is so loyal and faithful to us. We are united, Shloyme, just as you suggested in your letter, and we hope that the love which exists between us and our dear father will be able to last for a long, long time. We often speak of you in our home and with the family. You are the only one who is interested in our situation. Will fate ever bring us together? This is a question for you. The future can bring anything about. Well, heartfelt regards for you and your family from us lonely children, Rivke and Yosef Lewkowicz All material Copyright 1995 by Marshall L. Zissman and Sol J.
