Date: Thu, 05 Aug 1999 18:04:24 +0200 Subject: "The Periodic Adventures and the Adventurous Periodical of Marleigh," Issue 22 Hello! This is the last issue. I think I said everything that needed saying in the issue before this, but I figured I'd send this anyway. I lose my laptop tomorrow morning, and then have only telnet until I leave work, which will probably be early afternoon, before any of you are on line.=20 If someone wishes to chat with me, my telephone still works. The number is (whatever the German junk is) + [**********]. Remember that Ulm time = US time + 6 hours. I went to the IAESTE meeting Tuesday night. It was ok. There's lots of new people there I hadn't met, including this guy Lidvar from Norway, who Emma really likes. I sort of like him too. It's funny to hear him talking about what he likes about "Yermany." The details for the trip with Tom is shaping up. I reserved us a hotel room in Berlin for August 11-16 at the Hotel Crystal Garni (tel. [**********], reservation is under "Norton," in case you need to get a hold of us.) The guy who booked my reservation was named Glasgow Flascher, and he was really funny, making lots of jokes and stuff on the phone. He's nuts. Tom has also reserved us a car to wander around in, so we'll be able to haul all of my 6 months worth of stuff with us. Now all we need are directions to Laurant's place in Spa (Belgium) and Juergen's house in Muenster (they're both Tom's friends that we're staying with) and we'll be all set, I think. I'm thinking of going to Tuebingen on Saturday with the IAESTE folks. I won't have much better to do this weekend, and I hear Tuebingen's a fun place to visit. Besides, it'll keep me from wandering around, staring at the walls and driving myself crazy trying to think of what I could have forgotten to do to prepare to leave Ulm. German Word of the Week: Flenne = whiner, person who complains a lot Bettina, one of the girls who comes to IAESTE, was arguing with this guy in German. Afterwards, she said to Emma and I that he was a "Flenne" and not worth arguing with. We didn't know what a flenne was, so Betti told us to ask the guy. We thought about it, and then decided to ask. I was sort of disappointed, with the way Betti said it, I was expecting it to be much more interesting. I've been here six months, and I still can't swear properly. Honor and Glory... to Mom and Ginny, for mail to Frau Albrecht, for driving all the way out to Ulm to ask for suggestions on how to improve the MIT-Germany Program Dishonor and Notoriety... to not being able to find Ulm soccer jerseys to banks open at really inconvenient hours This is the last periodical. Remember, don't send email to wohnheim.uni-ulm.de or daimlerchrysler.com any more. Use [*************] or [*****************]. See you in the States! Marleigh
