Date: Fri, 28 May 1999 15:24:21 +0200 Subject: "The Periodic Adventures and the Adventurous Periodical of Marleigh," Issue 14 Hello! Right, lots of stuff. Mike P showed up, and we did stuff. We went to Munich last weekend, since I had Monday off. There were lots of drunken soccer fans there. I guess Munich won some championships there on Saturday, so we got to witness part of the parties. We went to a few museums. my favorite was the Lenbach House, which is this museum who's coolest exibit is a collection of art from "Die Blaue Reiter" (the blue riders). This was especially cool for me, since I had a bunch of posters from these people in my room all though high school, and I got to see the original painted versions of several of my posters. That was really neat. We also attempted the opera to see some Rossini show called "Tosca" (just for the hell of it), but the only tickets left were for seats with no view of the stage, so we decided to skip it. Other than that, there was a lot of walks through gardens and being amused by street musicians and stuff. Those of you who see Mike regularly should ask for a demonstration of the street performance by the Japanese musicians. He left Thursday, and I leave today. My plan is to spend the night in Stuttgart at the youth hostel, then catch my flight tomorrow morning at 6am (blech!) to arrive in Boston noonish. After of a week of much business, during which time I hope to find a few hours to graduate in, I leave for Stuttgart again on the evening of June 9th. So while it's possible that I will send one of these from Boston, it's not likely, so don't count on it. Work has improved. I asked them to take me off the wierd conceptual design project of ambiguity and now they've got me translating a few web pages for a conference. Not that translation is that wonderous, but at least it's something I can accomplish. I find I work better when I'm doing something that results in something I can point at and say, "See? That's what I did." Richard asked for my email address for while I was away. To me, that implies that he's going to use it. If he asks me to do work while I'm gone, I will laugh at him. German Word of the Week die Entwicklung = development I finally had a long conversation with Sabine, and I was complaining about work. We were speaking in sort of a English-German mish-mash, and I was trying to explain what I was doing at work. It was really funny, because we both had been using these really simple, short words, and here I am suddenly using long complex words like Entwicklung, Entwurf (design), and Benutzerschnittstelle (user interface). I guess you had to have been there. Honor and Glory... to Eon, for the Zombie-Eyed-Toucan-of-Doom and the T-shirt, and MikeP for visiting to Kate's grandparents Dishonor and Notoriety... to 6am flights to 80 degree weather and no air conditioning See you all (or some) soon!
