Upgrading to 10.6 from 10.4: Resolving the Blue Screen Issue

(Return to NewMacIntel.)

The upgrade did not go smoothly. The 10.6 disc appeared to be performing an "Archive and Install," but it booted to a blue screen without a login prompt. Verbose booting (cmd-V at startup) and ping revealed that the system was running, but the sshd was not up. Thus, no remote access either.

The problem appeared to be an instance of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1545, but there was no ApplicationEnhancer.bundle file in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration or anywhere else on the system.

So my working hypothesis is that one or more of Soundflower, GlowWorm, or AmbrosiaAudioSupport was to blame for this problem.
