Then the wind blew northward
and they came to where the sun rose and fell once a year.
Time slows when the wind blows,said a god.
Then the wind blew eastward until a day was a day.
Time races when the wind does, said another.
Then the wind blew southward,
and they came to where they began.
Here time and wind must be the same, said a third god.
Then the wind blew westward,
so that it was always night.
Shall we rest? asked a god.
When time stops, said another.
And that is why gods are like clouds,
and why, when the air is still, time stops.
