Entrepreneurial Dynamics -- The social science of startups

Joost Bonsen '90, current MIT Sloan graduate student, past Lead Organizer of the MIT $50K Entrepreneurship Competition (1993-5), and former leader of the MIT Founders Project (collecting data about MIT alumni entrepreneurship ultimately published by BankBoston as MIT: The Impact of Innovation), will survey academic research in the fields of technological innovation and entrepreneurship, attempting to separate heuristics and hand-waving from sociological data. Furthermore, we will explore the system dynamics of startups, especially the causal factors leading to exponential growth. This offering complements other entrepreneurship and system dynamics offerings over IAP. Explores patterns of corporate behavior from birth through buyout, bankruptcy, or continued boom, i.e. the full technology venture lifecycle.
