folk stuff

since i was very little (well, prenatal, actually :-) i've been doing folk dance. since high school i've also used my violin to play folk music. i don't have time for as much of it as i'd like, but it's lots of fun...

i currently fiddle for a morris dancing team called MOTley morris. we're the only border morris team in massachusetts :-)
i also used to play with a group called "banbury cross morris and sword."
the folk arts center of new england has a homepage which is useful to find out about events in the area.
NEFFA (the new england folk festival) happens every year in april in massacchusetts. i've been going since to it since i was a year old. it's tremendous fun: open folk dancing, performances of both folk dance and music, spontaneous and planned folk jam sessions, and incredible food.
MIT has a folk dance club which sponsors beginners nights, israeli and international folk dancing, a performing group, and other activities. i am a member of vinovana, the folk dance band they sponsor.

boiled in lead is a wonderful celtic-inspired band... difficult to describe, but wonderful to listen to.
