Notes on the set plans given in yeomen.dwg 3-level set; the upstage part is at 45", the midstage level is 18"; the downstage is at floor level. 45" level is Dexion construction; 18" level is 2x4 legs. upper: +-----------+ |___ ___| \___/ middle: .___ ___. | \___/ | | | +-. .-+ \_____/ lower: +-. .-+ | \_____/ | | | |___________| Upstage central tower (middle 3 flats in octagonal shape) is 19' 9" above the floor; back wall of set is directly beneath upstagemost pipe. The flats will be attached to the pipe for stability. There will be a window in the center flat, above the archway. LD: it would be nice if it were lit from inside. It would also be nice if the top edge of the tower faded away into darkness, to give the impression that it's even taller. Flanking walls are shorter than central tower, at 17' 9". Top edges of these have crenellated battlements, made of lauan panelling. "archway" center and stage right are open; doors USR and USL are smaller and have closeable wooden doors. LD: I see no need to light the interiors of these: it's a castle, after all. Plus, having it dark inside helps with a few sightline problems. DSR masking flat is 12' high; LD should have no problem shooting lights over it. Stage extends down to south edge of south Sala door and horizontally across. Particleboard panelling on floor. Two aisles through audience, one center left, one extreme right. Color schemes: ground-level floor will be grey-brown cobblestone. Platforms will be warm medium grey jointed stonework. Flats will be medium grey-brown fine stonework, with paler stonework at edges and corners. See corbis_images/white_walls.jpg (and the other photos of the White Tower in that directory) for the general idea. All archways and exposed edges of flats will have 9-inch Lauan or particleboard reveals attached to give thickness to the walls. If time and $$ permit, put a coat of primer over all surfaces before painting. All horizontal and convex vertical seams where flats are joined together should be dutched. (Concave vertical seams won't show as much.) note that stairways are not shown on the online plans yet: there is a continuous 3-step stair between the upper and middle levels, and a continuous 1-step stair between the middle level and the floor. The steps which abut the angled platforms in front of the central tower are really weird. They need to be (4 feet / sqrt(2)) wide, and be parallelograms in plan-view. They're going to be lots of fun to build. (if this paragraph makes no sense, you need to see the paper model.) Things that need to be built: 2 4x8 trapezoids (rectangles with triangular corners cut off) (borrow from MTG?) 3-4 4x8 platforms 3 4x4 right triangle platforms (use cutoffs from trapezoids or borrow from MTG) 1 5x10 archway 2 4x12 doorway (may build 4x8 doorway and attach 4x4 flat to top) 1 5x6 window 2 4x4 flats 2 20" high parallelogram steps 30' 9" high step. Some of this has odd angles, too. 28 feet of battlements. The battlements are 2' high with 6" slits cut every 2 feet. 9" wide reveals are attached to give the appearance of solid stone blocks. Paint colors needed: White Van Dyke Brown Burnt Umber Raw umber? (Need about 5 cans)
