Subject: How do we see colours in clouds?

Hi, 
I was walking the other day when I noticed some strange colours in 
some clouds. The sun was infront of me, about 35 degees above the 
horizon and about 5 degrees below the cloud in question. When I stood 
in shadow or blocked out the sun with my hand the cloud seemed to be 
streaked with brillant greens, purples, reds, and aquas. The effect 
was inhanced when I viewed the cloud through polorising sunglasses. 
I'm not sure if this is relevant but this was a week or so after the 
fires in Indonesia. Can anyone explain this?? It was really very 
spectacular.
