The fundamentals of chemistry are explored by the students in the lab. From the basics of kinetics (determination of kinetic constants), thermodynamics (calorimetry and enthalpies) to organic chemistry and an introduction to analyctical methods. Acid-base and redox reactions are thouroughly envisaged to implement them in titration.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry, B.Sc. Pharmacy, 3rd year
The students acquire the ability to conduct the experiments as prescribed from drug monographs and analyze the results (notably from the European Phamacopeia). We also teach them the interpretation of NMR and IR spectra of drugs.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry MA1
From pharmaceutical chemistry to clinical pharmacy. The students need to identify drugs on the basis of elemental analysis (researching heteroatoms) and coloured reactions arising from specific functions or pharmacophores, together with spectral data such as NMR and IR spectra. I also provide an introduction to molecular modelling by the analysis of the conformational landscape of bioactive compounds using molecular mechanics. Insight into QSAR, molecular docking and high level methods (i.e., quantum mechanical methods) are briefly provided. Finally, clinical pharmacy is envisaged through pratical cases.
