"Sites WE Could Buy" 1st Committee Meeting
Held November 10, 1996
Boston DNE Weekend
Our Responsibilities:
We first made the following list:
- What are we charged with?
- What are the basic specs for what we are looking for?
- We need to develop a list of Resources and Contacts in the camp/real estate worlds;
- examples: the "Camp Connection" (margaret has already had a call
from them and will talk to the director, Ronnie Bergman, next week;
also the Internet would be a good place to search for contacts; Bill
McAvinney will check this out.
- We need to develop a timeline by the next CSC meeting that includes:
- criteria for our search
- contacts
- a beginning list of possible sites
Our committee spent some time discussing "how we will communicate"
with each other (probably combination of in person, and by conference
call, as Robbie and Steve are not online.
We also agreed that we need, fairly quickly, a "reality check" about
what the financial resources and possibilities are, both from
internal (DNEers) financing and potential external (bank) financing.
In the remaining (few) minutes, we sketched out the beginnings of a
"spec" list for a camp
- Money: $250k to $500k as a reasonable figure to put out to
the camp/real estate world as the range we're initially looking in;
on the premise that $500k will get us a look at anything up to $850k
or so.
- Capacity: minimum capabiity of supporting 400 people at a
clip, either initially or after a reasonable development period (
reasonable defined by us as within two years
- Swimmable water
- A zoning environment that's consistent with out goals and
usage plans.
Timeframe for this committee to check in again:
- By the end of this week, communicate to each other with
expanded list of specs
- Following week: responses back and forth
- Conference call Saturday morning, (November 23) to report in
and get ready for
the next CSC meeting.
