SEVEN SAMURAI SAVE THE VILLAGE
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY SEARCH COMMITTEE AND A POTENTIAL AGENDA FOR OUR INITIAL MEETING
Paul Freundlich, 10/19/96
I. Given the pressure to find an acceptable site for next summer, the first priority of the Community Search Committee (CSC) should be to help the Reps with this task. We need to select a Coordinating Team (CT) to serve as the nexus of a site search, and identify which committee members can play a role in the process.
II. Although we might luck out and find a long-term solution while addressing our shortterm need, there are major questions which need to be resolved. They include.,
Our second priority is agreeing on these key questions, and finding who on the CSC wishes to work on which issues.
III. The third priority should be an operational plan which relates the questions which need to be addressed to the structure of the CSC. One approach would be to have each member of the CT act as chair of a subcommittee built around the key issues:
In this model, there would be seven CT members, each chairing a subcommittee, with an additional 3-4 CSC people on each of the seven subcommittees. Non CSC people could certainly be recruited to help these committees.
IV. The fourth priority would be to develop a time-line and budget for our process, Remember that the initial vision of the CSC's mandate was of an intensive 3-4 month operation. Has that changed? If, so, \Mli that affect people's participation? How much do we have to cover in travel and phone expenses?
