Epilogue

David Policar 1995

Like a scrap of poetry, or the teasing memory of a long-forgotten dream, a lost ghost where she cannot be, he sees her.

She does not hear him call to her, he does not feel her touch - but he sees her.

At last, he cries out, a lingering howl,
beyond words, beyond thoughts, beyond meaning,
full of all that he is and all she was to him,
and all they were to be together,
and the world shimmers around him.

She turns, and sees him, as if for the first time, and smiles.

"I..." - and she falters, confused and frightened.

"I know. It's all right."

And, together, he walks on.
