The traditional Vietnamese ceremony will take place at Vi’s parents’
house on the morning of Saturday, October 25, 2003. It involves
the formal introduction of both families and the traditional offering
of gifts.
John’s family and relatives will go to Vi’s parents’ house
bringing gifts wrapped in red cloths. These gifts traditionally
contain meats, wines, fruits, cakes, tea, etc. After John’s father
makes a formal marriage proposal, Vi’s family will hopefully accept
and then she will make her appearance. Next, Vi and John will pay
respects to their family and ancestors by burning candles and then
serving their parents tea. Families and friends will then present Vi
and John with gifts. Lunch will follow the ceremony at the house.
Afterwards, the wedding ceremony will take place at the church.
