I was born in Izmir, Turkey in 1981. Although Izmir is my
family's hometown I did not have chance to live in this beautiful city. Before
the high school I lived in Kars, Ankara and Malatya.
Even tough I made up my mind for being a physicist at the age of ten, high
school was a great milestone in my life. Ankara Science High School (AFL) is a
boarding school where I learned both science and social relations. I believe
that it is the place I grew up.
My high school years were quite productive. Informatics and physics olympiads
taught me not only basics of computer programming and general physics but also
making most of the mathematical tools in hand and driving physical intuition
into the extremes. I also had an opportunity for working in the "Low Temperature
Physics Lab" of Hacettepe University. It was the place where I tasted the joy of
experiment. But AFL mostly reminds me the joy of sharing the life with the whole
community. I am grateful to all my friends for those unforgettable days.
I was then matriculated into another great school, Middle East Technical
University (METU). I tried to master my skills in physics and mathematics
throughout my college years. I started teaching in physics olympiads and
attended some international physics schools. My senior year was significant for
starting to learn the art of self discipline and harmony, Aikido. I've started
Aikido at the Aikido Dojo of METU.
Last but not least, I met my dear love Nalan at METU.
Now I am in the legendary center of science and technology, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT). It is a great pleasure to be at place where
people are making and sharing frontiers of research. Currently I am associated
with Center for Theoretical Physics, towards a Ph.D. degree.
I enjoy almost every part of physics and have a great desire for the unknown.
Currently I am tackling with the dark energy problem under the supervision of
Frank Wilczek
and trying to understand various alternative gravity theories with
Max Tegmark. I am also interested in various topics in quantum gravity,
cosmology, fundamentals of quantum physics and complex systems.
You can also see my CV (as of August 2005).
