The Alvsnabben Wreck - 18th Century
[return to maritime archaeology]
For a complete description of the Alvsnabben wreck, see Christian Ahlstrom, Looking for Leads (Helsinki: The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, 1997).

The bow of the vessel, with stem post and cutwater in right foreground. Note the windlass in the middle ground.

Close-up of the bow windlass.

The wreck is remarkably well-preserved in the cold, brackish Baltic water. Even the deck planks are largely intact on this wreck.
