Sophomore Kaitlyn Nealon was selected to the third team of the Capital One Academic All-America women’s soccer team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday. She became the fourth player in the history of the MIT women’s soccer program to receive this award. MIT is the all-time Division III leader in producing Academic All-Americas and ranks third across all NCAA divisions with 176 honors.

Appearing in 21 games with 15 starts, Nealon was a member of the Cardinal and Gray’s defense that registered 10 shutouts and a 0.63 goals against average. The Engineers finished the season with a record of 14-3-4, captured the NEWMAC Championship and made its second appearance in the NCAA tournament in the last three years.

Nealon is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in economics and a concentration in biological engineering. A teaching assistant for freshman physics, she is also an associate advisor in Burton-Conner residence hall where she works with freshman advisers to mentor their students throughout their first year at MIT.
