Robots and Beyond: Exploring Artificial Intelligence at MIT

A multimedia excursion into the world of artificial intelligence, Robots and Beyond throws open the doors of MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where scientists have been probing the mysteries of A.I. for five decades. Kismet, designed by Cynthia Breazeal, is on display along with other robotic devices that have informed a new generation of scientists creating intelligent machines.

School Buildings - The State of Affairs: A new architecture for a new education

Opening: June 24/ Reception 6:30 p.m.
Symposium: June 25 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.


Today's new school architecture reflects a changing approach towards education which positions teaching facilities at the center of community life. Effective school buildings are now designed for multiple public functions as community centers, as well as for centers of learning and personal development. The exhibition examines this contemporary design process through 31 school projects in Switzerland, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Austria.

MIT Student Presentations from D-Lab
New designs to improve the world

When D-lab students showed some of their work here at the Museum last fall the audience was wowed – come back and take a look at the end of year presentations showing innovations that will help people in developing countries better navigate rural terrain, improve food supply and aid recuperation from amputations.

Harold E. "Doc" Edgerton is famous for stopping time. A beloved MIT professor, Edgerton created many classic images including this famous milk drop coronet. The MIT Museum is in the process of digitizing Edgerton's images for online accessbility.

Claude Shannon's Ingenious Machines
On view in the Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery

The MIT Museum's collections are extensive, diverse and continuously expanding. A recent acquisition on display in the Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery are whimsical devices created by the late MIT Professor, Claude Shannon, a pioneer of information theory.
