Grades
Weekly writing and speaking assignments -- 50%
Final
project -- 25%
Attendance and participation -- 25%
By enrolling in 21w.780 you enter into a close association with peers. You are responsible for providing technical documents, presentational materials and critical commentary for 14 weekly workshops in which we depend on your professional commitment to the practices of effective communication. Attendance and participation are key. More than one absence substantially affects your grade. It will be impossible to receive higher than B- if you are absent two times. (A grade of B or better is required to pass Phase II of the Institute Writing Requirement.) Three absences result in a failing grade.
Each weekly assignment will be emailed to jackk@mit.edu as well as posted to your alias folder (housed in the 21w.780 locker) by noon on the Tuesday before our next class meeting. Bring at least three hard copies of the weekly assignment to each class. An overdue assignment posted to the course locker less than 24 hours late (before noon Wednesday) will be downgraded one letter (A- to B-, for example); there will be no credit for an assignment more than 24 hours late.
There will be no extensions for the final project.
