Items that do not involve legislation:

For items such as guest speakers, discussions, approval of new officers, etc. please send a description of the item to the Senate Speaker and Vice-Chair to be considered for the agenda.

Items that involve legislation:

For funding requests, policy statements, resolutions of support, etc. All bills and resolutions should be submitted to the Senate Speaker and Vice-Chair by either a voting member of the senate or by petition of 20 undergraduates. If you are not a voting member, feel free to contact your representative to ask him or her to sponsor your measure.

Legislation is due at 11:59 PM on the FRIDAY prior to the normal Monday meeting.

The Bill and Resolution Templates for 2005-2006:

  1. Download the Templates for Bills and Resolutions
  2. Save the zipped file to your computer.
  3. Unzip the files and open either the billtemplate.doc or the resolutiontemplate.doc.
  4. Make sure you modify all the fields indicated by the Word macros. (Please do not move the title. It has been lined up to fit on the letterhead.)
  5. Save the document in the following format: "38UAS1-1.doc" where "1-1" corresponds to your assigned bill number. If you don't know your exact bill number, use an "X" in place of the number after the dash.
  6. E-mail the Senate Speaker and Vice-Chair and attach the Word Document.

Please note: All legislation contains an enacting clause and a textual body. The enacting clause is the language which, by virtue of the Senate passing the legislation, causes the legislation to come to force. The enacting clause may take various forms. The verbs used must be in the present tense and passive voice. Older clauses use the imperative mood ("be it resolved") while newer ones use the indicative mood ("it is moved that…") The style is purely a matter of taste.
