The "operational" definition of harassment ("If someone feels harassed, then they have been") is not made-up for parody purposes or to belittle legitimate concerns. It appears in at least two places in in some "educational" materials distributed at MIT. The following is from "Fight Back!!!: An Underground Guide to Fighting Sexual Harassment". Although this publication has no official standing (yet), it is commonly distributed, and the Ad Hoc policy proposal would have all sexual harassment cases judged exclusively by people similar to, if not the same ones as, the authors of this guide. Emphasis added in the excerpts below: "If you feel uncomfortable or intimidated by someone's comments or behavior, you do not have to tolerate it, and you have a right to have that behavior stopped. _If_ _you_ _believe_ _you_ _are_ _being_ _sexually_ _harassed_, _then_ _you_ _are_. You are the only one who can define what makes you uncomfortable or intimidated. ..." (page 9) "Even if the story sounds strange to you, even if you've never had any problem with the specific harasser or harassment in general, even if s/he expresses some doubts as to whether to call it harassment, believe them. _If_ _s/he_ _feels_ _harassed_, _then_ _s/he_ _has_ _been_ _harassed_. ..."
