B03 LENGTH: 371 words HEADLINE: Student ousted from class sues UC BYLINE: BEN L. KAUFMAN SOURCE: The Cincinnati Enquirer BODY: Student Adam Bleile sued the University of Cincinnati and instructor Teresa Nichols on Thursday, claiming Nichols barred him from her class on ""Sexual Assault in American Culture" for being politically incorrect. That spring quarter confrontation will delay Bleile's graduation, according to attorney Robert Laufman, who filed the civil-rights suit in U.S. District Court. During the first five weeks of class, Bleile, a military veteran in his mid-20s studying part time, shared his views "as a male on the subject under discussion," the complaint said. "Frequently, he would disagree with Nichols' generalizations about males and her efforts to instill an attitude of fear and distrust of males in her female students." On April 28, Nichols called Bleile and another male student out of class, and campus police told them they were guilty of criminal trespass because they had not paid their tuition. Laufman said when Bleile went to the registrar to pay, he was rebuffed because he lacked Nichols' written permission, which Nichols refused to give. Although Nichols told campus police that Bleile had disrupted her class, Bleile said she had never complained to him. An undercover campus policewoman attended the class reportedly to watch Bleile and reported that Bleile's behavior was proper, according to UC. The suit contends Nichols had Bleile removed from her class "because he was a male and because he made statements contradictory to the teachings of defendant Nichols. At the time of his removal, (Bleile) had perfect attendance and an A+average." Late fees were insufficient reason, Laufman added, because professors routinely readmit students after they've paid, barring attendance or grade problems. Nichols, program coordinator in Women's Programs and Services, would not comment. Kathleen Bruvold, UC's associate general counsel, said she could not comment on the suit because she had not seen it. But, Bruvold said, attempts were made to resolve the quarrel. Bleile had ""several opportunities" to get what he wanted, Bruvold said, without elaborating, and she would not say why negotiations failed. Bert +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Bert H.
