The Globe article mentions the gay-youth newsgroup in question by name, something that delights me to no end. This gives people a chance to look at the newsgroup and decide for themselves whether or not it contains any allegedly "explicit" materials. This newsgroup is a special case, in that it is moderated. This means that the moderators are able to exercise control over the contents of the newsgroup, so that no "explicit" materials can be sent to innocent (?) children through that forum. For the record, I've updated my Web page about soc.support.youth.gay-lesbian-bi to include a mention of the CompuServe fiasco. My page includes information about the newsgroup, the stories that have been written about it in the New York Times and Wired magazine, and copies of the official CompuServe press release and follow-up press release by Rex Wockner. It also contains a link to the "official" s.s.g-l-b home page, where you can learn more about the moderators of the newsgroup.
