Jeremy, you are right ! I installed a demo version of CYBERsitter 2.0 which 'kindly' censored 'offensive' words. So for those of you with children - it works. Thanks for your comments - it helped resolve *my* problem Rgds, Mark From: "Jeremy [Mej] Taylor" Newsgroups: nz.wanted Subject: Re: Programmer wanted Date: Fri, 05 Jul 1996 09:39:04 -0700 Organization: Tait Electronics Ltd Mobile Radio Division Lines: 36 Message-ID: <31DD4528.43A9@tait.co.nz> References: <4r9cmf$e0n@status.gen.nz> <4rajlc$a9u@news.express.co.nz> <4rfpig$aqc@news.express.co.nz> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Mark Johnson wrote: > > JeremyB@ORAC.pec.co.nz (Jeremy Bowen) wrote: > > >I hate to break it too you Mark, but I think the trouble is at your end. > > > >Fred's post appeared with "klan" intact here. > > Jeremy, you are right ! > > I installed a demo version of CYBERsitter 2.0 which 'kindly' censored > 'offensive' words. > > So for those of you with children - it works. > > Thanks for your comments - it helped resolve *my* problem > > Rgds, > > Mark Seems it works a little too vigorously. If you remove every combination of letters from email, news, and www pages that can be construed as offensive *by themselves*, but are harmless when forming part of another word (eg "klan" in "Auckland") then there will be holes in the English language everywhere. I think it is great that you are taking responsibility for censoring what your kids see, rather than clamouring for political change, though. I'd experiment with a couple of other packages though, might do a better job. When you enter your personal detals they run a filth filter over it to make sure you it is seemly and it barfed over the town name. (Can you see why). Eventually they told him to get around the problem by calling the town Skunthorpe. Its a bit of a worry though.
