I want to know because I want to read the actual indictment, and >contact the arresting officer['s supervisor or PR droid] for details. Jose Saavedra may have been arrested on May 8th. His booking number may be 6010503. He may be a 19 year old resident of El Paso County Texas. He is currently being held in El Paso County Jail. Jose is being held on a "Fugative from Justice" warrant issued from the Sacromento DA's office. The nature of a fugative from justice warrant is that is the name used when an out of state felony warrant is being processed. The original charges were something of the nature of "Terroristic threats" and "Threatening the life of a public official". Jose may be soon to appear in court JP5, Judge Carter's courtroom. Jose has not waived his extradition rights, and therefore is awaiting an order from the govenor for extradition. A reciprocal agreement between TX and CA is in place, and the govenor is expected to extradite. Jose might have had an attorney by the name of Ray Valerde, but might have not been able to make financial arrangements and now be represented by the public defender's office. These are felony charges for Jose's airing of his political views concerning Leslie. Due to the nature of this case, Sgt. Marshall of the El Paso County Sherriff's office has reasonably complete information on the situation. Sqt. Marshall seems like a nice guy. I believe the California Senator Tim Leslie's office can be reached at (916) 445-5788. I believe the Sacromento district attorney can be reached at (916) 440-6218. I don't think this concerns primenet anymore. Distribution: inet preserved just for Billy. Also emailed to the fight-censorship list for the heck of it. rcostner@intergate.net (Robert A. Tim Leslie, an esteemed member of the Select Committee on Information Services in State Government and the Legislator of the Year according to the California Rifle and Pistol Association and the Safari Club, has a home page at: http://www.sen.ca.gov/htbin/senator_profile/leslie His constituents (Lake Tahoe area, ski resorts and such) may send his staff email at: Senator.Leslie@sen.ca.gov (Please don't send him email unless you mean it. I've known some of the poor folks working there, though I don't think I have any friends in the sausage factory now.) His Sacramento office is indeed (916) 445-5788. However, letters generally count more than either voice or email, so please jot something [non- threatening] down on a postcard and mail it to: Senator Tim Leslie State Capitol Room 4081 Sacramento, CA 95814 You might also wish to send a letter to the governor at: Governor Pete Wilson State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 I'll get Tahoe press contacts tomorrow, assuming someone doesn't want to beat me to it. I think the Select Committee on Information Services should be in a good position to learn about the onlline public's right to know (even if they are a bunch of stupid flamers). Assuming someone doesn't want to beat me to it -- and please do if you've got the time nad knowledge of state politics, since I've already got a full plate -- I'll put up a guest book on the web where you can leave your comments on this case. By the way, in case anyone cares, the mountain lion proposition lost, i.e., it's no easier to get license to hunt mountain lions now than it has been. See http://www.primary96.ca.gov/ for detailed election returns, full text of bills, and stock arguments. California, pushed by Jim Warren's posse, has pretty good information online. Kudos to the Select Committee on Information Services, I guess. If you want to get partisan about it, that information is on the web, too. Disclosures-R-Us: I'm a registered Republican in California, but I'm voting more Democratic nowadays, 'cept I like Tom Campbell. -rich Leslie Season! Wabbit Season! Leslie Season! Wabbit Season!
