Princess Margarita's visit to Boston
May 1 - May 8, 2001

HRH The Princess Margarita of Romania will be visiting the U.S. this spring, together with her husband HSH Prince Radu of Hohenzollern-Veringen. Princess Margarita wil travel to New York, Boston and Washington DC, and the trip will include several fundraising events as well as meetings with potential funders and program partners.

Princess Margarita's visit to Boston on May 1-8 is to strenghten the ties with the philanthropic organizations in the area, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and the Kit Klark Senior Services of Dorchester, whose activity is in many ways similar to those of the Princess Margarita of Romania Foundation. Some of these organizations operate at the local level, others on the international scene. The challenges they are faced with are very similar with those that the P.M.R. Foundation faces, and a dialog and exchange of experience is beneficial to both sides.

Another major goal of Princess Margarita's visit is to raise funds for the programs developed in Bucharest and to make these programs known to the Romanian community in Boston, which was so supportive of the Foundation on the occasion of Princess Margarita's visit here last year. A benefit dinner will take place on May 5 at the Algonquin Club, 217 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, from 6:30-10pm. Dinner tickets are $250 each (tax-deductible contribution of $200 per ticket), and there is limited seating. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, during which Princess Margarita will speak briefly about the Foundation. The evening will be hosted by Candy O'Terry of Magic 106.7's Exceptional Women program, and will close with a musical performance by Irina Muresanu, Ala Benderschi, Adrian and Mihai Jojatu. To purchase tickets, please send a check payable to the "Princess Margarita of Romania Foundation" to the following address:

Limited copies of the book (published in Romanian) will be available at $10 each. A reception will follow the lecture. Suggested donation: $10. To confirm participation, please contact the Honorary Consulate of Romania, New England at (617) 624-0228.

Sunday, May 6: Princess Margarita and Prince Radu will visit the St. Parascheva Romanian Orthodox Church of Boston, 171 Water Street, Wakefield, where they will attend the religious service at 11:00am, followed by a luncheon offered in their honor by the members of the church and an artistic program offered by the children attending the Romanian Sunday School of St. Parascheva.

Princess Margarita will travel to Washington DC on May 8. A cocktail reception/fundraiser will be held at the residence of the Romanian Ambassador, 2500 30th Street NW, Washington, on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30pm. Tickets are $150 per person (tax-deductible contribution of $135 per ticket).
