SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Auditions: by appointment
only, 617-452-2394. First full rehearsal: 7:30 pm, on the first Tuesday, after Registration day, Kresge
Auditorium. New Member Audition Requirements: Two short, contrasting solos or etudes of your choice, sightreading and scales.
WIND ENSEMBLE

Auditions: by appointment only. 617-253-2826.
First rehearsal: 7:30 pm, on the first Monday after Registration day in Kresge Auditorium.
Audition Requirements: Chromatic scale the full range of your instrument
as you are able, brief sight-reading (focusing on rhythmic reading ability),
and a brief solo piece or etude of your choice which best demonstrates
your musicianship and overall ability. Your choice should include passages
that are slow and lyrical and ones that demonstrate your technical facility.
Percussionists Note: You are encouraged (but not
required) to audition on at least two of the three major percussion instruments
(timpani, mallet instruments, snare drum). Timpani auditions will include
basic tuning, snare drum auditions will include basic rudiments, and mallet
auditions will include scales.
FESTIVAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Auditions: by appointment only. 617-253-2826. First rehearsal: 5:15 pm, on the first Tuesday, after Registration day, Killian Hall, 14W-111.
Audition Requirements: Woodwinds and Brass: Chromatic scale the
full range of your instrument, brief sight-reading (focusing on rhythmic
reading and various jazz styles), and a brief solo jazz piece of your
choice. You are encouraged to demonstrate your improvisational ability
at the audition but it is not a requirement. Accompaniment for Blues in
Bb or F will be provided.
Rhythm Section (Piano/Vibes/Guitar): Sight-reading
of basic chord changes and a solo piece of your choice demonstrating melodic
playing. You are encouraged but not required to demonstrate your improvisational
ability.
Bass: Sight-reading of basic swing and funk/Latin
charts and chord changes and a solo piece of your choice demonstrating
melodic playing. You are encouraged but not required to demonstrate your
improvisational ability.
Drumset: Sight-reading of basic swing and Latin/funk
charts and performance of four/eight bars of time followed by four/eight
bars of soloing in both swing and funk/Latin styles at a medium tempo.
CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY

not audition, but do need to go sign up. Audition Requirements: Two solo
pieces of contrasting styles and sight-reading.

CONCERT CHOIR

Audition Format: Octet auditions of music just rehearsed.
