The Women's Varsity Volleyball Team is an NCAA Division III team which competes in the New England Women's Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). The NEWMAC consists of Babson College, Clark University, US Coast Guard Academy, MIT, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and WPI.
MIT has enjoyed much success since it began in 1975 including ECAC Championships in 1983, 1993, 2003 and 2004, NEW8 Championships in 1986, 1987, 1989, and 1990, Eight NEW8 Players of the Year, and 13 trips to the NCAA National Championship Tournament where the team has finished as high as 2nd in the country (Division III). MIT has enjoyed 27 winning seasons, an overall record of 753 wins and 278 losses, and an overall winning percentage of .730. The team finished the 2007 season with five tournament championships and a 36-3 record. They also finished the season with a NEWMAC Conference regular season championship, a New England regional ranking of #2, and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. This was the 4th time in the past six years the the team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament. This also marks the 12th consecutive season that the team has advanced to the post season.
